German Minister of Economics Habeck visited GEOMAR – also in focus: CCS and alkalinisation

On 29 April, Robert Habeck, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and Vice Chancellor, visited GEOMAR. On board the research vessel ALKOR, he spoke alongside other scientists with Andreas Oschlies (co-speaker CDRmare & coordinator RETAKE) and Klaus Wallmann (coordinator GEOSTOR) about the role of the ocean in CO2 removal from the atmosphere and CO2 capture and storage in the seafloor. The minister was particularly interested in the current work of the CDRmare consortia GEOSTOR and RETAKE. For Habeck, these new findings are very informative, as his ministry is also responsible for the carbon management strategy and the achievement of the climate goals.
